Etch V1 Was Due in September 2025. The Pricing Page Still Says It Will Be.

The line reads: "Etch V1 will be production stable in September 2025." Version 1.0 is dated 30 January 2026, and the sentence hasn't moved.

Pre-sale slide: development timeline. Brochure sites by end of year 1, large sites and e-commerce by end of year 2, enterprise and de facto standard by year 3.

Etch V1 was promised for September 2025. Version 1.0 is dated 30 January 2026. That’s four months late.

Now go and read the pricing page. Under “Is Etch production stable?” it says: “Etch V1 will be production stable in September 2025.”

Will be.

It’s November 2026. That date went by more than a year ago, and the sentence is still sitting on the page where you hand over your money.

Read the next line too: “Users are encouraged to use Etch prior to the V1 release only for no-consequence or low-consequence websites.”

So if you took that seriously, your client’s site stayed off Etch and you waited for September. September came. V1 didn’t.

Then there’s the slide above, from the pre-sale. Kevin Geary’s company, Digital Gravy, makes Etch. Year two on that slide is “Large Sites & E-comm”. The promise is “You can build larger, more complex sites by the end of year two.”

Count from the pre-sale in September 2024, as I do, and that’s September 2026. It’s gone.

E-commerce first. Etch’s FAQ says: “We still have plans to build our native Woocommerce integration”. Still plans. The same sentence goes on to say “there’s nothing stopping you from building an e-commerce site in EtchWP today”. You’ll want to read what you were sold on WooCommerce, and what’s there before that comforts you.

Now large sites. Etch’s own docs say custom post types and custom fields should be treated as “more of a playground right now than a real part of your workflow (unless your needs are very basic)”.

Larger, more complex sites, on a playground. In my view that’s year two missed, the same way V1 was.

If you’re about to buy, remember these dates when you read the next one.
