Robert DeVore's 'Hidden History' of Kevin Geary: What It Says

In April 2025, WordPress developer Robert DeVore published serious allegations about Kevin Geary. Here's what he says and what I could check.

Robert DeVore has been building for WordPress for years. The WP Minute podcast introduced him as “a seasoned WordPress developer and entrepreneur”. He’s the founder of WP Dispensary, a cannabis plugin for WordPress, and the creator of Stattic, a static site generator.

On 28 April 2025 he published this: “Kevin Michael Geary: A Hidden History of Hate, Racism, and Bigotry”. It’s about 1,500 words, and it opens with a content warning for “racism, sexism, ableism, and hateful language”.

DeVore introduces Geary as best known for his work around the WordPress builders Oxygen and Bricks, and design systems like Automatic.css.

His reason for writing it is in the first section: “if people are going to trust Kevin Geary as a leader, they deserve to know who they’re really dealing with.”

What he quotes

The first part of DeVore’s article goes back to 2009, and a blog called This Is Broken Blog. He says Geary published it under his own name. As his proof of authorship, he offers a guest post on a site called ProBlogger that links back to the blog. Most sections point to an archived source.

The blog passages he quotes include one about Mexican immigrants and immigration. Another sits under his heading on racist commentary, and it’s about poverty and family life. I’m not repeating them here. They’re in his article.

He also quotes posts on women, children and people with disabilities. These are DeVore’s readings of those posts, and his view is that “It’s a matter of record.”

The pattern he describes

The second part of the article follows Geary’s career. DeVore starts with The Money Hawk and Six Figure Grind, which he says promoted lifestyle businesses. Next comes Rebooted Body, in health and fitness, then Digital Ambition, a web strategy and coaching business, and then WordPress.

DeVore sees one cycle repeated in each: “Enter a new industry. Build an audience using fear-based marketing and absolutist positioning. Create paid ‘inner circles’ or premium memberships around his personal brand.”

The next step, he says, is that Geary will “Attack dissenters or critics as ‘haters’ or ‘low-quality individuals.’” and finally “flame out, blame the industry, and move on”.

That’s his description of a career, and it’s his opinion.

Why it came out when it did

The article followed a public argument. In April 2025, DeVore and Geary debated on WP Townhall 13, a show on Geary’s YouTube channel. They argued over Geary’s advice on selling websites under $5,000, and the debate ran for more than three hours.

A capture from the day before the debate shows it scheduled on Geary’s channel. The episode is no longer there, so DeVore posted his own copy on his channel.

DeVore came back to the article in June 2025, in his post about the debate. He wrote that after the article Geary “ignored it, blocked me, and hoped it would go away”.

What I could check

I read an archived copy of the post with the passage about Mexican immigrants. It’s there, under the byline “Kevin”, and that byline links to an author page for Kevin Geary.

The blog’s about page says it was “created by Kevin Geary and Ryan Lee”, and that Kevin is “the author of The Money Hawk”. The Money Hawk’s Twitter account gave its owner as Kevin Geary of Atlanta. In 2009, Kevin Geary of Atlanta promoted The Money Hawk from the handle @kevinmgeary. In December 2008, The Money Hawk’s author called himself “a small business owner (martial arts studio)”.

Kevin Michael Geary, whose site carried the Digital Gravy copyright, later published at kevinmgeary.com. That site says that in January 2013 he was “entering year five” as “co-owner of an Atlanta brick and mortar business”. On a 2018 podcast, the transcript has him saying “I was a co-owner of a martial arts studio”.

Same name, same city, a handle that matches his domain, same kind of business, same years. I think it’s the same man. Look at the links and decide for yourself.

The posts are from about 2009.

DeVore isn’t a neutral source: he published this after a public argument with Geary. Some of his points don’t hold up as he puts them. One slur he says Geary “used” sits in a transcribed song lyric.

I haven’t seen a response from Geary to the article, beyond what DeVore says above. If he has one, or if I’ve got something wrong, tell me and I’ll correct it.

DeVore’s article is here if you want to judge it and its sources yourself.
